I walked through the long narrow hallway, emotions rushing through me both good and bad. While I was mourning the loss of my career, Aiden's was restarting and I couldn't be any more proud of him. I pushed the door open to find him pacing around his dressing room, anxiety showing on his gorgeous face. "Are you doing okay?" I asked, walking up to him with a worried look on my face.
I smiled as I pulled his hands away from his mouth and intertwined mine with them, "You're going to be great baby…"
"How do you know? The last time I was here I was high on coke and drunk… I made a fucking fool of myself in front of thousands of people which was then broadcasted to a million other people…"
"You've been writing new music. You've been making your new album and it's been going great… Why can't you perform?" I gave him a warm and encouraging smile.
"It's different in a studio than in front of a crowd…"
I grinned widely, "I never thought I would hear Aiden McCartney say he was nervous." I leaned up and kissed him on the lips, "I promise you, you're going to be fine… And your Dad and the rest of your family is here to support you…"
He relaxed a little bit in my arms, his face still showing his nerves, "Thank you."
"Anytime baby," I grinned before setting my forehead against his. "If anything, that whole thing just made you look like a total badass.... Didn't you punch your drummer?"
He cringed and shrugged his shoulders, not wanting to reminisce on that part of his past. "I don't know what I'd do without you," He replied and pulled his head back to press a kiss against my forehead.
"You'd be very lonely at night," I winked at him.
"Well I don't know about that..." He trailed off while a small laugh escaped me.
"Hey, I'd watch what you say! Your words might prevent you from getting laid tonight," I faked a serious face, both of us knowing very well that he'd get laid tonight.
He tightened his arms around my waist and dipped his nose into the nook of my neck, pressing soft kisses against it and making me shiver. "You know that you're the only one for me," He whispered and my grin returned instantly, that and butterflies. This man drove me crazy, I couldn't be any more in love with him than I was right now.
"You're pretty smooth sometimes, McCartney," I tangled a hand in his hair and guided his head back up to meet mine, pressing a hard kiss against his lips.
“Are we interrupting something?” I heard Paul’s voice come from the doorway as Aiden pulled away from me.
“No, we’re good. Come on in," He told him with a small smile as a little body ran past him and jumped into Aid's arms. “How are you doing?” He asked Bea.
She nodded, “Good, just waiting to see you sing.”
“Are you excited?” He asked her as she nodded quickly. “I’m glad you’re here," He told her, kissing her temple.
She wriggled out of his arms and went over to give me a hug, I was happy to see her also. “How are you cutie?” I asked as I picked her up.
“I’m good! Are you excited to see Aiden sing?”
I nodded, “Yes very much so.”
“I would rather see you sing though Chloe.” Bea grinned, “You need to sing tonight..”
“I don’t sing anymore cutie," I raised an eyebrow.
“But your voice is so beautiful…” Bea trailed off, making me think of the way Aid had asked me come up on stage tonight and sing a duet with him but I declined.
“Thank you Bea. Maybe at another time," I tried to tell her.
“It’s time Aiden,” I heard one of the venue managers call out.
“Alright, I’ll see you guys on the other side," He grinned, giving Bea a kiss on the forehead and then turned towards me to pull me into a deep kiss. “I’ll see you after the show.”
“You’re going to do amazing," I winked at him, proud of him.
“Thanks," He said as he headed towards the stage, grabbing his guitar and walking towards the stage.
I kept my eyes on him as Bea slipped her tiny hand into mine. He looked nervous, but he'd be amazing, I had no doubt about it. "Can we watch him?" She asked and I nodded my head.
"He saved us seats in the front row," I grinned at her.
"I like being back stage instead," She replied, sounding stubborn and confident when it came to being VIP at a concert - growing up this way, it felt natural. I knew it because I was raised very similar to how she was, only there was much more hope when it came to her. Cade and myself grew up much too fast. The chanting got louder and louder, Bea giving me a tug closer to the stage so we could be not more than a few feet from Aiden but still out of sight. "Come on!! He's about to start!"
I smiled at her and shook my head, she was too cute no wonder she always got her way. Aid's eyes flicked to meet mine one last time before he turned back to the crowd and the music started, a lot rumble of bass as the crowd went wild. With his guitar in his hands, he started playing and looked at ease, like this was what he was meant to be doing and it was. He was amazing.
"I love this song," Bea squealed and a laugh escaped me.
"Me too," I replied, always going to be his biggest fan even if I had his little sister to compete with.
Once the song finished, he breathed out heavily, “How are you doing tonight London?!” He screamed breathlessly into the microphone and millions of fans screamed back. He grinned, “Me too! Thank you all for coming out tonight!!!” The chords to the next song played over the speakers.
Aid took a break and grabbed one of the stools near the side of the stage and took a seat, “God, you guys are amazing.” He grinned as everybody yelled back, “You know it’s been years since I’ve been here and the last time I was here, didn’t go so well… I was in a bad place then as I’m sure you all know…” He took a deep breath to gather his thoughts, “Honestly, the only reason I made it out alive during that time was someone who is so damn special to me, a song doesn’t do justice for her.” The crowed awed at him as he continued, a huge smile on my face while I felt Bea's eyes on me. “She is kindest, most patient woman I have ever met… and not to mention she’s insanely gorgeous," He grinned out as everyone hollered.
"He's talking about you, Chloe!" She vibrated next to me while I shot her a grin.
“Now, what I really wanted to happened tonight was for her to come up here and sing a song with me, but she fought me tooth and nail to make sure that didn’t happen.” He grinned, “So do you think she can resist the millions of you? How about we make her come out here tonight? Chloe?!” He laughed as the entire stadium started chanting my name while he walked backstage to find me standing there with a shocked look on my face.
“Aiden," I said stubbornly.
He grinned grabbing my hand, “You can’t ignore all those people who want to see you. C’mon.”
“I didn’t want this!” I pouted.
“For me beautiful?”
“Go Chloe!!” Bea’s little voice interrupted as she started to push the two of us away and back on stage.
I sighed as he grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the stage and everybody clapped, this being the last thing I expected. “See, isn’t she beautiful everyone?” He said with a smile as he brought me a stool to sit next to him.
"I think someone's trying to get laid tonight," I joked back with a grin as I sat down and reached for his hand, intertwining it with mine. Being on stage again, it felt surreal, especially being up there with the love of my life.
"Hey, let's keep this PG," He gave my hand a squeeze and I felt my lips curve into a wide smile. "We have a certain guest back there who will be questioning me later on what getting laid means," He nodded his head towards where me and Bea had just been standing, she gave the two of us a wave and looked excited, like she hadn't even heard a word of what he was saying.
"Oops," I wrinkled my nose before biting down on my bottom lip. "So did you pull me up here to embarrass me or...?
The crowd laughed while Aid shook his head, "She's always trying to get down to business."
"So there is a reason," I quirked an eyebrow and wondered if he'd make me sing... I was hoping he wouldn't.
"Would you do me the honor of singing with me tonight?"
Despite the crowds encouragement, I felt my heart pounding in my chest. Giving my head a slow shake, I held my ground. "Nice try, but all of these people came here for you tonight... not me," I smiled at him, trying to get him with flattery.
"And?"
"And we don't have a song planned," I continued, still smiling as he dropped my hand and walked back over to the roadie who handed him his guitar. He strummed the first chords of our song and I felt my cheeks burn pink. "Definitely getting laid tonight..." I trailed off, shaking my head at my boyfriend who was literally perfect.
"Is that a yes?" He raised an eyebrow at me.
"No, but go on," I motioned for him to continue, loving when he played our song for me.
He took a pause to play some chords and smiled at me, "Are you sure?"
I gave him a small smile and crossed my arms over my chest, "Nope."
He sighed dramatically and continued with the second verse. "I am in love with a stubborn woman people!" He said in the middle of the lyrics.
I laughed, “You wouldn’t love me if I wasn’t.”
“She is right, ladies and gentleman," He grinned and nodded as he walked back over to his roadie and handed him back the guitar and Aiden just sang… my heart literally skipping a beat for how amazing he was. He turned back towards me, “If you’re not comfortable with singing I won’t make you… But I have another question to ask you.”
I nodded, “Yes?” He took a deep breath and suddenly he was down on one knee and I heard a thousand gasps ring out, including my own. “Oh my god," I said with wide eyes, wondering if this meant what I thought it meant.
“I have thought about how to do this for months now. Pretty much driving myself insane over it… Now it’s so easy… Chloe Clapton, will you marry me?"
"Yes," I said quickly, smiling and nodding my head. "Yes!!"
He grinned back at me and I felt my heart pounding in my chest, "Really?" I practically threw myself into his arms, knocking him onto the ground while the both of us started laughing, the crowd cheering at this point while I remembered that we weren't currently alone. Honestly though, none of the other people mattered. "Well, if I knew it'd be that easy, I would have done it sooner..."
"Where's my ring?" I asked in a whisper but of course, the microphone caught it and everyone started laughing.
Aiden laughed and shook his head, opening the box he had in his hand - I hadn't even noticed it before. "It was my mom's ring... I had the diamond changed, but -"
I gasped at the ring and held a hand over my mouth while he took my left hand to slip it on. It was gorgeous; definitely vintage which only made it that much more amazing. It was a one of a kind piece and had a story behind it, it meant everything to Aiden. "It's gorgeous," I replied with tears in my eyes, still staring at it and feeling like this all might be a dream.
“You sure? I mean we can go look at others if this isn’t your perfect idea of a ring," He told me and I quickly shook my head.
“No! This is perfect Aiden!!” I interjected and then planted a deep kiss on him, “Seriously. I can’t stop staring at it!”
“Thank god you said yes," He laughed and grinned at me, talking into the microphone, “Otherwise I’d be embarrassed in front of thousands and standing here like a dumbass," He said, making the crowd laugh.
I smirked, “Are you kidding? With that proposal and that ring, I’d be an idiot to say no.”
“You never know.”
I smirked, “Well there was no other answer… By the way, we’re going to need a security team on us as we leave… A lot of girls over the world have just had their heartbroken.”
“Well, how about another song instead?” He asked the crowd as they all shouted. “Will you sing this one with me?” He smirked at me, trying once more for good measure.
“Nice try. I think the crowd has had enough of me for the night.” I winked, “They deserve more of you, since you’re the reason they paid.”
“Fine. I asked you to marry me and still stubborn," He rolled his eyes as I took a seat in the stool and he sat down and grabbed his guitar to finish the set off.
I sat there and watched him with a ridiculous grin on my face, practically checking the songs of the setlist in my head since I had memorized it months ago. I couldn't wait for the concert to be finished and finally he finished the last song. I stood up and waited for him to take my hand, leading me off the stage before he pressed a kiss against my lips.
"I have to go back for the encore. Are you alright back here?" He asked, nearly out of breath.
"Of course," I smiled at him. "I love you."
"I love you," He rushed out with a grin before jogging back onto the stage while the crowd went insane.
A pair of arms hugged my legs, "Can I see?!"
I looked down at Bea and felt the temptation to cry, smiling and nodding as I held my hand out instead, "Isn't it gorgeous?"
"It is!" She beamed at me. "You're going to be my sister!!"
"I am," I said back, this time with tears in my eyes.
"We need to go shopping for your princess gown!!"
I parted my lips as strong arms wrapped around me and Aiden nuzzled my neck, cutting me off from speaking. "A princess gown, huh? You're lucky anything would look good on you."
I tilted my head to the side and kissed his lips chastely, "You're done already?"
"I'm done," He said simply, still holding me. I never wanted him to let go.
"Now what?"
“Whatever you want."
“Let’s go to dinner!!!” Bea exclaimed, “So Chloe and I can talk about what I’m going to be wearing for the wedding.”
“Bea, we just got engaged maybe 20 minutes ago," He told her with a smirk.
“And my dress is the most important,” She said seriously. “DUH!” Like it was common knowledge.
He sighed and rolled his eyes while a deep voice cut in, “Congratulations!” We turned around to see his father strolling in with Nancy by his side. He pulled his son into a hug and whispered something into his ear before patting his back.
He nodded, pulling away, “Thanks Dad.”
“Let me see the ring.” Nancy smiled, walking over to me as she examined the band, “This is absolutely gorgeous! You definitely have a keeper," She winked at me, only confirming what I already knew.
I laughed as I walked into Aid's arms, “I really do.”
He kissed my temple, “I am starving.”
I watched as he grabbed a towel to wipe the sweat from his forehead, “Well, you’re the man of the night, choose and we’ll go somewhere.”
“Chinese!” Bea exclaimed before he could say anything.
“That sounds good… Let me go get changed and then we can go," He told everyone as he pulled me by my hand towards his dressing room. Suddenly I had him pinned up against the wall as my tongue fought with his for dominance.
I groaned in frustration, “God, I’ve been wanting to do that ALL night.”
“Oh yeah?” He smirked before I kissed down his neck, making him moan.
“Yes," I breathed out. "I can’t wait to get home tonight and show you my complete appreciation for everything," I pulled back to give him a wicked grin.
He groaned, “If I don’t change right now, they’re going to think something is up…”
I sighed, pushing myself away from him, “I guess you’re right.”
He nodded regretfully as he peeled off his wet shirt and changed into a fresh one before spraying some cologne, “Alright, let’s go out.”
