I killed the engine of my car in front of a bar I knew a little too well, it was the place where I often stopped for a drink after work or after Karlie, but tonight it was the bar where I was dropping the girl I had just fucked. Jasmine was a waitress but I had known her long before she started working there, we had gone to the same high school only now there was no trace of the girl she once used to be, her body through the years had transformed completely and she had gone from chubby to thin yet curvy, her face wasn't to die for but her jet black hair made her look generally nice and sexy.
"Are you in the mood for a drink?" She asked, breaking the silence that had filled the space between us during the whole way to the bar. I had gotten what I wanted and I wasn't interested in talking.
I shook my head as I turned it in her direction, my face giving nothing away neither giving her false hope. "I'm fine." I answered quietly, wanting to be at least polite because I wanted to be able to come back to one of my favorite bars.
"Will you walk me to the door at least?" She asked and smiled then bit down on her lip as she stared at me through her dark lashes in what I supposed to be a sexy look, only it didn't have any effect on me.
"Deal." I offered a small smile as I opened the door and got out of my car, bringing a cigarette to my lips and lighting it while I walked toward the passenger side, waiting for her to get out too like the gentleman I wasn't really. Without another word I pushed her door closed behind her as I led her toward the bar, being careful not to make any contact because I didn't want to while I was sure she did instead.
Once in front of the glass door she spun on her heels, her dark locks floating in the air as she turned with a smirk on her full lips, "I had fun." She said simply and, just like I had predicted, she set a hand on my chest, stepping closer to me.
"It was fun." I agreed, because she had been crazy in bed, and I liked that, only I wasn't willing to have the same kind of fun with her twice. "I should go now." I added, feeling suddently...something. It was weird, but I knew I had to go.
"I know." She sighed and leaned into me quickly, pressing a kiss on my lips and catching me off guard.
I set my hand on her hip just as quickly and pushed her away gently, my eyes looking over her and glancing inside the bar. Where Lila was looking at me with an unreadable expression on her gorgeous face. I stepped back, making space between me and Jasmine while I kept staring at the red haired beauty on the other side of the glass. "Bye Jasmine." I dismissed the girl quickly, not wanting to waste another second with her because I was too busy wondering why Lil was there, what she was doing.
"Night Travis." A soft sigh left her lips as she finally walked into the bar, leaving me there alone with my cigarette.
I inhaled deeply and I knew that I should have walked back to my car and driven back home, only my curiosity was too strong, I felt that pull towards Lila that hated so much, my usually good self control disappearing and, before I could tell, Lila disappeared from my view too, in a blink of eyes. As I ran my free hand through my hair I tried to convince myself that this was nothing, it was just me being stubborn over nothing literally, and next thing I knew I was holding my phone to my ear, waiting for Lila to answer. "What do you want?" She snapped sharply, her tone annoyed with no apparent reason.
"Come outside." I ordered quietly yet in a firm voice to let her know I wasn't asking, it was a command.
"No." She said back and I knew, because I knew women, that she was about to hang up.
"I give you ten seconds or I'll get inside and drag you out myself." I said seriously and hang up before she could, smoking and waiting for her as I stared at the door of the bar while I mentally counted to ten. When I was at six I started moving toward the door, thinking that she wouldn't come to me. Instead, she finally walked out. “Took you long enough.” I growled.
“What do you want?” Lila asked, folding her arms over her chest and glaring at me.
“Why are you here?” I nodded my head towards the bar as I ignored her answer.
She blinked back at me. “To eat and drink.” She replied in the same monotone.
My own glare softened and I smirked slowly and took a step closer. “Still such a smartass….” I trailed off, my eyes taking her in as I appreciated her perfect body even if it was a little too dressed.
“Always. Did you need something?”
“You didn’t answer my question.”
She widened her eyes and licked her lips like the fucking tease she was. “I did answer it. Maybe not good enough for you, but then say that.”
“Lila.” I warned.
“I'm friends with the new bartender Travis why does it matter?!”
I looked at her as I picked apart her answer, which wasn't good enough. “Okay.” I said eventually and she grabbed the cigarette from my mouth and stomped it out with the toe of her heel. Fuck I hated that. “Do you have a problem?” I asked, raising a brow as she looked back up at me.
“Yes.” She answered, not explaining.
“Will you come here a lot now?” I asked casually.
“Why do you need to choose a new bar to pick up sub-par women in the off chance that you’ll have to bear a few moments with me?” She spat back.
"No." I answered simply and felt a grin widen on my lips because despite the subtle insult I still found her amusing when she got all mad and feisty. It made my hands itch.
"No what?" She narrowed her eyes on me, too bad I had learned to be immune to that during the short time we had spent together so far. Which was getting incredibly long compared to my standards now that I thought about it.
I ignored her bad mood and glanced over her where a guy was staring at me like he wanted to kill me. "Is that your friend?" I asked once I made eye contact again, nodding at the man as my curiosity got the best of me. Again.
She turned her head then looked back at me, a hint of a smirk on her red lips. "No, that's my brother."
"Uhm." I answered unintelligently, not impressed at all.
"Scared Travis?" She asked back as her grin curved her mouth upwards and her body relaxed a little, I could see that, sense that, apparently I knew her body more than I thought too.
I shook my head and this time it was my turn to smirk, only mine was a smug one. "Nothing can scare me." I answered simply and watched as her expression changed again, back to an annoyed one. When she didn't say anything but snorted, breaking eye contact again, I acted by instinct, feeling that wave of need and desire killing my rational self once again. "Come on Lil, get in the car."
"What?!" She widened her pretty eyes, looking genuinely surprised, then glared for whatever reason. "He.ll no."
"Scared of a dejavu?" I raised one eyebrow at her as I looked at her in a challenging way while I felt that crazy attraction growing again between us, thinking about how hard we had both come in my car.
"I can't leave my own birthday party." She said instead, looking almost mad at me.
I blinked as I processed her words, "Is it your birthday?"
She rolled her eyes and took a step back from me, "That's what I said."
"Are you finally turning 18?" I teased her but got nothing back, only a glare that would easily kill me if only looks could. I got closer to her again and wrapped my arm around her shoulders to pull her into a half hug as I kissed her cheek gently, "Happy birthday Lil." I whispered against her silky skin, inhaling deeply her sweet scent and forgetting our surroundings, everything, even the pair of eyes that were watching us from the other side of the window of the bar.
“Did you really think I would get into your car?!” Lila asked, still furious apparently.
“You liked my car last time.” I answered back like an asshole.
She shook her head. “My god what is wrong with you?!”
“Right now it’s that you’re yelling at me.” I smirked, clearly not bothered at all but amused instead.
“Do you honestly think I would go anywhere with you right now?” She asked again.
I shrugged. “You usually don’t mind having me around Lila.”
“Oh, so you want to be friends.” She said, tilting her head to the side. “We’re friends now is that it? Because last time you told me we weren’t.”
“What exactly is it that you’re so upset about?” I asked, taking a step closer to her in an attempt to either distract her or get what I wanted. Or maybe both.
“Nothing Travis.”
“Hey where’d the birthday girl jet off to?” A male voice rang out and Lila turned around while I glanced at the guy walking toward us. Was he the bartender?
“Just talking to a co-worker.” She said, faking a smile. “Get back to your party.”
“You sure?” He asked and glared at me as I guessed that he was one of the infamous brothers but I wasn't impressed anyway. Nothing ever came between me and whatever I wanted, not even an overprotective brother who didn't even looked that intimidating anyway.
“Don’t worry he’ll be leaving in a second. The party need’s it’s second best-looking Trenton to make up for the best looking one not being there.” She winked at him and he laughed, though his eyes were still on me before he went into the bar.
“He doesn’t like me.” I pointed out.
“He doesn’t know you.” She replied. “If he did he’d hate you.” She added before sighing. “Travis what do you really want for me?”
I stared at her as I slipped my hands into the pockets of my jeans, shrugging, "Nothing really." I said quietly, not wanting to argue mostly because I have no idea why she was so pissed off. "I didn't even know you were here, it's not like I'm stalking you." I added.
"But you called me." She paused, crossing her arms against her chest tighter as her cheeks got pink but not for the usual reasons. "And forced me to come here outside."
I opened my mouth then closed it again because she was right about that, but that was just how I was and I couldn't really regret it or feel bad. "I didn't know it was your birthday." I said eventually, wondering what I would have done if I had known instead. Then thought better because I was drifting to naughty land already.
She rolled her eyes, looking genuinely exhasperated, "Why do you say it as if it explains everything? It explains nothing Trav!" She retorted and her voice got a little too loud again.
I went from quiet to even more quieter, but it wasn't because I had nothing to say, it was because this conversation was starting to piss me off. She was making a big deal out of nothing. "I had no intention to ruin your birthday party, trust me." I said seriously and glanced away, doing my best to keep my temper in check since I didn't want to get mad at her, not tonight.
"Then you probably shouln't have called me!" She spat back, her voice dripping bitterness and I wondered why she was so furious, then I remembered that sometimes you couldn't find a reason why girls got mad, it was just part of the nonsense they were sometimes.
"You're right." I admitted as I reached for another cigarette and set it between my lips, guessing that my time with Lila was about to end and I wouldn't bother her with my smoke. I took a few steps backwards toward my car but made sure to keep looking at her, "I'm sorry Lila, go back to your party and have fun."
She grabbed my cigarette again and stomped on it. “Those won’t kill you fast enough so you should give up on trying.”
“I'm going to ask you one more time Lila. What is your problem?” I rose a brow at her, hating that gesture but knowing better than pointing that out now.
She just stared at me shaking her head. “I swear you stand there looking at me as if I'm just another crazy girl, like I have no reason for ever being upset and I'm probably just PMSing!”
“Are you?” I retorted, because that would make sense and at least I'd know what I was dealing with. You could never win against a girl when she was pmsing.
“No. Do you seriously have no consideration for other peoples feelings?! What if you had come in to get me? How do you think that poor girl would have felt. God I hope she doesn’t see me out here with you.”
I did a slow double take and it took me a moment to get what she was trying to say. “Are you talking about the waitress?”
“Was there another woman you fucked today too I should have mentioned?”
I took a step closer to her and looked down into her eyes with a curious expression because feminine solidarity was something I didn't believe into. Girls were so cruel with each other. “You’re angry for her feelings Lila? Or your own?”
“Admittedly you could have shot me a text message or something, but I knew what I was getting into.”
I just grinned. “What would that text message say?”
“How about “Lila, I'm bringing home a girl who looks like she has Chlamydia, so feel free to be repulsed by me from now on.” She spat back as I started laughing.
“I thought you felt bad for her.” I grinned.
“You are the worst. Seriously.”
"I got that before." I shrugged nonchalantly as I looked at her, thinking that even if I was it wasn't stopping her from being in my proximity. Not her or other girls.
She rolled her eyes, "Yeah right, but let me guess, it doesn't bother you." She paused and narrowed her eyes on me, "Does it even exist something that bothers you Trav?"
"This is bothering me." I answered flatly because for me it was either she kept talking to me but stopped being mad or she went back inside the bar. This conversation was just pointless.
"Oh poor Trav." She made a sweet voice then glared again, "Deal with it."
I blinked at her, tempted to be the one walking away at this point, "Hell no. I did nothing. It's not my fault if we were in the same place at the same time, just like it's not my fault if it's your birthday and I didn't know."
"Because you never do anything, right?" She spat.
"I'm thinking about a few things I'd like to do right now..." I trailed off and glanced down her body, only now realizing how short her dress was and how easy it'd be for me to turn her around and slip my hand under it.
"Travis!" She hit my chest, forcing me to stop enjoying the view and making me groan. "Don't you even think about it!"
"I'm not even free to think now?!" I retorted, annoyed to no end at this point because yes I could get why she was annoyed too, but there was a line she'd better not cross.
"You were with that girl when? Less than one hour ago?" She questioned in a bitter tone as her finger pointed behind her at Jasmine who, fortunately, was too busy to notice.
"You're jealous." I said slowly and stared at her, the thought finally hitting me. Jealousy was a double-edged weapon and one I didn't like that much.
“I'm not jealous Travis, I'm offended.” Lila said seriously, confusing me once again.
“Offended?”
“That you would even think I would go near you in the same day as you touched another woman. I like you Travis, god knows why. But I'm not going to be disrespected.”
I took a step closer and my eyes got more serious because despite everything I knew that she wasn't like other girls. “I respect you more than any other girl.”
She swallowed thickly. “I believe you.” She replied and paused, looking as if she was holding back. “I don’t know why but I do.”
I tilted her head up slightly, looking for any trace of lie into her eyes. There wasn't any. “I don’t know why either.” I said honestly.
After what seemed like forever staring into each other's eyes, she pulled away. “I need to go back in. Do you want to come?”
I took a deep breath and glanced away, feeling genuinely bad for interrupting her. "No Lil." I answered quietly, once again wondering what the f.uck I was doing, what the hell was happening to me. I could see, literally see with my eyes while I looked at the people who were inside, that we came from two completely different words and we were opposites.
"Why?" She asked in a barely audible voice, it being so small that got all my attention back.
I looked back at her and reached for her cheek, brushing my thumb against her porcelain skin even though I knew she was probably hating me right now. I didn't really care. "We both know it wouldn't be a good idea." I answered honestly, not able to picture myself fitting into the group, mostly when everyone had seen her little show.
"Okay." She shrugged nonchalantly and bit down on her lip, a gesture that gave her away.
"Still mad?" I asked, and she shook her head, "Upset?" I tried again, looking for the right word but she shook her head again and I gave up. "I'm sorry if I ruined your night." I said instead, never being the one using the s word that much, but I knew when it was needed.
"Stop saying you're sorry." She spat.
I ignored her tone, her body language, my urge to just grab her and have my way with her. "I mean it."
“Don’t you think it’s odd?” Lila asked, tilting her head to the side.
“What?” I asked since I was lost there.
She stepped closer and for a moment I thought she'd touch me, but she didn't instead. Too bad, I liked a girl with initiative. “That you’re sorry for one. How many times does that happen?”
I grinned. “Touche.” I admitted in a chuckle.
She swallowed before talking again, her expression changing completely. “Do you usually look at girls like you want to eat them up even after you just got some?”
I set my jaw at that, hoping that being a year older would make her also wise enough not to start a conversation she had no business in. “What are you saying Lila?” I asked, my voice turning low automatically.
“I'm saying maybe you should bring home the girl you really want next time and not settle.” She winked and turned around so she could walk back to the bar.
I kept my eyes on her, focusing more on her body that on her words that were just a bunch of bullshit she knew nothing about. But I wasn't going to argue with her on her birthday. Not again.
“Oh and Travis?” She stopped and waited for a second, but I bit my tongue. “You owe me a birthday present.” She winked and then let the door fall behind her.

(they're so frustrating :3)
