just a little closer

just a little closer

Jax

“I’m serious! We have to go!!!” Lila called from the patio and I turned to her.
“What’s wrong with what we’re wearing now?” I asked, pushing my hair back as I tossed Parker the football with ease.
“Um, you’re covered in dirt. No club will let you in wearing that.”
“No club will let me in anyways, I’m so obviously a soccer mom.” Liz’s voice came as she walked into the backyard with Adam.
“Not from where I’m standing.” Kolton shot her a wicked grin and Adam narrowed his eyes on her brother.
“I don’t know who you are but I don’t like the way you’re looking at my wife.” He said seriously. What was wrong with my brothers, they snapped for nothing.
“I’m sure you don’t like the way most guys look at her.” Kolton responded with a shrug as Liz turned bright red and Adam practically growled.
“Rob! My brothers are going to take us to the laser tag place!!!” Will said, running up to his friend.
“I don’t know what I’m wearing either.” Colbie admitted, watching the boys run off.
“Please. I have enough dresses to clothe an army. Now come on, I haven’t seen my boyfriend in like 4 days and he doesn’t like waiting for me.”
“Have fun.” Adam kissed his wife sweetly before I pulled my girl into my arms.
I didn’t kiss her because I was trying to be good around her family, mostly around Will, but god I wanted to kiss her so bad. Instead I leaned in to her ear. “Wear something I’ll be thinking about taking off all night.”
She shivered in my arms and blushed furiously “Deal.”

Travis

I tossed away my cigarette and let the smoke out in a blow before making my way into the club, sighing to myself and running a hand through my hair as I scanned the crowded place to spot my brothers and the two Trenton girls. After a long day at work, which followed my trip to New York the last thing I wanted was so share Lila with anyone else, in public. But it was Colbie's birthday so I had no other choice. I walked towards them and as soon as Lila saw me, she lit up,  “Hey baby.” She slid her hands up my chest.
“Why do we have to be here again?” I asked pointedly, relaxing just so slightly.
“You can leave if you want.” She shrugged.
I shook my head, too smart to fall in that trap. "And let you here alone?" I asked even thought it wasn't really a question, "Nope."
"It's my sisters birthday I wouldn't be alone." She retorted and raised one eyebrow slowly.
I ignored her words as I turned to Colbie, remembering that I had still some manners left. "Happy birthday Colbie." I said honestly, smiling and pressing a kiss on her cheek.
"Thank you." She muttered, blushing a little too while Jax looked at her like she was the first woman he had ever seen in his life. Good god.
"So what did you get her for her birthday?" Adam interjected, looking oddly relaxed and younger.
"Travis sent me flowers." Colbie said back, making Jax crack up.
"I think he meant Jax." I smirked at my girlfriends sister who blushed further.
"Oh." She bit down on her lip, "I got it wrong!"
Lila shot me a questioning look, "Did you really do that?" She asked, sounding surprised, shocked even.
I wrapped my arm around her tiny waist as I pulled her against my side, "I'm a gentleman and I had to make up for missing the first part of the party." I said, using my charm. Truth was...I had to work, but I had been glad to have an excuse not to meet Lila's brothers.
Liz chucked, looking at me, "Sure, a real gentleman." She teased me.
"He never gets me flowers." Lila pointed out, pouting a little too.
I resisted the urge to groan and just stared at her. That'd be enough.
"I still want to know what you got her." Adam said to Jax stubbornly, curious as a monkey.

Jax

"I can't tell you, she doesn't know yet." I shrugged nonchalantly, pretty proud of the idea I had come with but still a little nervous about it. What if she hated it?
Colbie leaned against my side, "I have to wait until later." She pouted and I kissed her pout away, hearing a groan that I was sure came from Travis.
"I know what it is." Lila pointed out with a mischievous look ok her face, of course she knew...she had helped with that.
"I do too." Liz interjected and winked at me, her face saying it all. She approved. If Colbie hated it I could give it to her and Adam. Oh well.
My oldest brother shook his head, "How come I'm the only one who knows nothing!" He protested then looked at Trav who just shrugged, looking completely uninterested.
"I don't know either!" Colbie chuckled, her tone showing both her excitement and...happiness. That was what counted the most to me. "We should get drinks until everyone forgets about it."
"We're going." I offered as I squeezed my girlfriends hand before letting go regretfully. I pointed at the only empty table in the VIP area, "Ladies, that's all ours."
The girls all smirked and headed there while we walked to the bar.
"What's your present, god curiosity is killing me!" Adam said from beside me as we leaned against the counter.
I turned to Travis instead, "Aren't you curious?" I asked, almost feeling bad for how much he had been missing lately. But he had been in New York and I had been...well, busy.
"No because you're about to tell us, aren't you?" He retorted and gave me a look.
I waited to order two bottles of Champagne before glancing at my brothers, running my hand through my hair and nervous about what they'd think too. "A weekend away."
"Damn that's good." Adam said seriously and sighed, "Now Liz will be jealous."
I laughed, shaking my head, "You know what to get her for her birthday. You're welcome." I smirked, glad of the positive feedback.

Travis

"What about Will? Is he included in your romantic gateway?" I asked slowly, wondering if my brother had lost his mind completely. That and champagne? It was just too much.
He shrugged nonchalantly, "That'd be the plan." He said before grabbing the two bottles and heading back towards our table where the girls were waiting for us, not giving me time to retort. A weekend with a teenager? So full of romanticism.
"I'm getting spoiled tonight!" Colbie literally squealed, even clapped her hands together as she beamed at Jax.
"Take notes." Liz teased Adam instead.
"Trav." Lila wrapped her arm around my waist and whispered into my ear, "What's wrong?"
I cradled her face in my hand, dipping my nose into her hair, "I'm afraid my brother lost his fucking mind." I breathed out honestly.
Lila read something on his face because her own changed and she bit on her lip. “I hate champage, come get a real drink with me.” She shouted for the tables benefit, pulling me away from the group and over to the empty side of the bar. “What do you mean?” She asked, paying full attention to me.
I shrugged, ready to explain even though it was pretty obvious to me. “He got her a weekend away? I can’t remember the last time Jax bought anything more than a drink for a woman.”
She nodded. “I was pretty surprised too, but you have to admit it’s a damn good present.” She grinned and I just gave her a skeptical look.
“With Will though? Is that even okay with Colbie?” I asked, bringing up the subject that was biggest concern.
She shrugged. “That’s up to her not us.”
I shook my head, honestly too tired to get into a conversation like that, mostly if it wasn't even about me. We were just starting to be a drama free couple, surely I didn't want to deal with other couple's drama now. “Your sister must be damn good in bed.” I said instead.
She bust out laughing as she set her hand on my chest. “I’m sure she is but that’s probably not all there is. I’m sure your brothers thought the same thing about me.”
“You’re different.” I said simply, my hand tracing her jaw slowly and letting out the part where my brothers had known that Lila wasn't just about sex even before I had.
“Maybe that’s how Jax feels about Colbie.”
I nodded, afraid that was the case “I hope the feelings are mutual.”
“Do you think Colbie is screwing around with your brother?” She asked pointedly, settting her hands on her hips in her famous defensive pose that didn't impress me at all.
“I don’t think she’d do it on purpose, but you have to admit he’s a rebound for her.” I explained simply.
She nodded. “I thought the same thing. But Trav, I’ve never seen her this way before.”
I sighed, over it already and wanting to focus on my girlfriend instead. “You look hot as fuck.” I said seriously after a few moments of silence.
She laughed again and leaned up to kiss me. “So do you.” I grinned wider.
I set my hands on her ass to pull her closer. “I always do.”
She rolled her eyes but didn’t argue with me because she knew it was true. “Want to sneak in the back room and fool around?”
I shook my head, kind of dead because who even said that for real? Babies, just like Lila. Also, it wasn't going to be so easy for her. “No I’m going to tease you all night until we get home.” I shot her a heated stare. “Give her a martini.” I said to the bartender once I got his attention.
She smiled to herself, for whatever reason. “Mean.” She said under her breath even though she was still grinning as she grabbed her drink and we headed back to the table.

Jax

“Oh for fucks sake.” Trav came back and shook his head as he turned to see our brother and sister in law making out at the other side of the table.
“They don’t get out much.” I laughed. “It’s like I’m in high school all over again.”
“Did you share a room?” Colbie laughed too.
“Dear god no.” I answered. “I would have gotten way more of an eyeful than this if we’d shared a room.”
“Yeah like Rob’s conception.” Travis’ voice was in a monotone as he sipped his drink.
“Lies.” Adam pulled away from his wife to interrupt. “That wasn’t until college.”
Liz laughed slid into Adam’s lap. “This is so fun!” She smiled.
“Yeah making out is tons of fun.” Colbie agreed, smirking at me.
I took the hint and pulled her closer to kiss her hard. “Let’s go dance pretty girl.” I offered, pulling her out of the table to the floor and wrapping my arms tightly around her. “That dress is going to look amazing on the floor at my place.” I teased, but I was serious too.
“Does that line really work?” She teased me back, sliding her hands around my neck tightly.
“You tell me.” I rose a brow and swayed against her.
“I think the odds of you getting lucky are pretty good so far…..but I haven’t gotten my present yet.”
I smirked as my grip on her hips got tigher, pulling her back against me as soon as she took a step back, it only being part of the way she was dancing but I didn't even care. "I'm already as nervous about it as it is." I confessed, not sure if that was the best policy but what the hell, why hiding how I felt?
She wriggled her brows together, taking the hint and wrapping her arms around my neck tight, "Should I worry?" She asked slowly.
I shook my head, "No, I just really hope you like it." I shrugged as I spun her in my arms, pressing her back against my chest and tilting my head down to kiss up her collarbone as we danced.
"Mhm." She moaned softly, even arching her back a little and tilting her head against my shoulder, "Are you trying to distract me or seduce me?"
"Both." I grinned against her skin.

Travis

I followed Lila's eyes, finding them looking at my brothers and their women. She was oddly quiet but I could hear the wheels turning in her head. "What?" I asked bluntly, grabbing her hand and pulling her between my legs as I sat.
"I want to dance." She said back just as bluntly, not even bothering to look at me.
"Go dance then." I retorted but spanked her lazily, sure that no one would notice in the semi darkness of the club and even if they did? They'd only envy me. Or her.
She finally made eye contact, sighing, "But I want to dance with you." She pointed out, staring at me seriously.
I arched my brow, shooing her an amused look instead, "You know it's never going to happen." I said slowly. There were things I was good at. There were others I wasn't. Like dancing.
"But look at your brothers! Damn, why the dancing gene had to skip you?!" She retorted, looking a little upset even if that was silly and she knew that.
I let out a laugh then took a long sip of my drink before setting the glass on the closer flat surface, freeing my hand in order to lift her chin with one finger. "I can dance. But only in horizontal position."
She blinked at me at first, then broke into a chuckle. "Oh god Trav." She shook her head and finally grinned, "You're silly."
"I think the word you were looking for was sexy." I said instead, only to prove her point but hey, young girls deserved to have a fun night out without their old boyfriends being too grumpy. And I had missed my beautiful girl to the point I could forget the rest of the family drama that I was sure was about to happen. "And I know."
"New York made you even cockier." She smirked before pressing her lips softly against mine, keeping her eyes open and on me, "I didn't even know it was possible."
"I'm a man of many surprises." I nibbled at her bottom lip as I pulled my head back, wrapping my arms tighter around her and letting her lean into me, "Thank you for tidying up my bedroom by the way. I can't way to make it messy again." I added nonchalantly and smirked. Did I really like that? Eh. I had mixed feelings, as usual. If there was something I had learnt about Lila and our relationship was that both could cause opposite reactions in me. Sometimes at the same time.
“I didn’t tidy up your bedroom.” Lila said giving me a weird look. I was the weird one now?
“My bed was made.” I pointed out.
“That’s not tidying up that’s making the bed.” She laughed instead of saying you're welcome, which would have been simpler.
“Still.” I shrugged.
She shook her head. “I’m going to find a gay guy to grind up against.” She replied, moving away from me before I pulled her back in her arms. She was crazy if she thought I'd let her grind against anyone who wasn't me. For what I knew she was so sexy she could turn gays into straight guys again.
“Or….” I leaned in and kissed her, sliding my hand up her skirt and bending her back against the booth.
She moaned, her hands moving to my hair as she kissed me back just as hard. My hands grabbed the side of her thong and I pulled it down her legs. “Trav!!” She tried to inch down her short skirt.
I grinned at her, happy with my idea that would keep her with me for sure. All hot and bothered. “No one is looking at us silly girl. And if they are they’re just jealous.” I slipped her panties into my pocket. “I’m going to need these to tie you with later.”
She groaned. “Can we leave now?” She asked, alredy desperate for more alone time with him.
I shrugged, set on serving her the same kind of torture I was going through. Sweet torture, but still. “This is your night out.”
“No it’s Colbie’s instead.” She groaned again and looked over at her sister. S
“She looks okay.” I nodded over towards her and Jax who honestly were basically dry humping. I had a point, like always.
“We can leave after presents. COLBIE!” She shouted and her sister looked up as Lila motioned her towards us.

Jax

“What’s up?” Colbie asked her sister as she wiped her forehead. She looked a little flushed and damn. Damn. It was so hard to be around her in public sometimes.
“Presents!” Lila smiled up at her.
Adam and Liz came up behind us, wrapped around each other and so clearly in love...what else was new. “Time for cake?” Adam asked, grinning his smile.
“No cake. I can barely fit into this dress as it is.” Liz shook her head.
“You’re smaller than I am and you’ve had two children. Shut your mouth.” Lila shot back, treating her like she was her own family and in a way, she was, not that Travis would ever admit that.
“I thought you said no kid talk tonight.” Liz shot back just as quickly. “Here.” Liz pulled an envelope out of her bag and handed it to my beautful girlfriend.
She blushed and leaned in to kiss her cheek before opening it. “You didn’t have to get anything for me really.”
“Please. Liz is just hoping you’ll use that with her so she can have an excuse to leave the house again.” Adam got hit by his wife as Colbie read the gift certificate to her favorite restaurant.
“Thank you!” She hugged her again. “I’ll definitely be using this with you.” She said seriously.
Lila pulled out a larger envelope to hand to her sister. “I bought you that outfit, but this is a little something extra.” She grinned. “Not the real thing of course, just a picture.”
Colbie opened it to see a picture of a painting, clearly that her sister had done. There was Colbie, as a kid, reading a book to Lila when she was barely big enough to talk. “Oh Lila.” She said, tears forming in her eyes as she set her hand against the picture.
“I had Reece hang it up in your place while we were out.” Lila smiled at her.
“It’s gorgeous. Thank you so much.”
“Damn it Lil.” I shook my head. ‘How the hell am I supposed to compete with that?”
Lil gave me boyfriend an innocent shrug. “Dunno.”
“Were you really that chubby as a kid?” I teased, pointing to her little baby arms as she shot me a look and Travis started cracking up.
“You’re the worst.” She said seriously, sticking out her tongue.
I poked her nose and laughed, "That still doesn't make you the best." I pointed out.
She cuddled against my brother's side, shooting me a naughty look, "The hell I am not." She said almost cockily.
Adam raised one eyebrow, "Since when you talk like Travis?" He asked with amusement in his tone.
"Since I'm a great role model." Travis answered for his girlfriend even we all knew that was b.ullshit. He knew that too.
Liz turned to Colbie and gave her a serious look, "Please don't end up like her. We all know how strong the pull of a Cole men is, but you can resist." She managed to say before breaking into a grin.
"You were so good at resisting that you even married me. Well done." Adam told her with a smirk on his own face as he pulled her against him.
"I'm not that bad!" Lila protested.
"You're a lost cause." I teased her while Travis looked completely untouched by the whole silly discussion. I bet he was happy of how he had her wrapped around his finger.
Colbie leaned her back against my chest, waiting for me to wrap my arm around her waist and I did, "She's young, I'm old enough to be safe from the Cole's charm."
Adam and Liz laughed, while Lila pouted, "Not you too!!!" She protested.
I bent my head down to whisper into my girlfriend's ear, "Lies." I said as I felt a grin curve my lips.

Travis

"I think it's time for babies to go home." I announced, wrapping my arm around Lila's neck and taking advantage of everyone's good mood to go away easily.
Lila looked up at me and I dared her to disagree with me. She didn't.
"Already?" Colbie pouted, looking genuinely disappointed with that and looking at Lila. "We didn't even dance together."
"Travis had a long day and-"
"Travis doesn't dance anyway." Jax pointed out as I cut my girlfriend off, the look on his face the same Adam was giving me. Apparently, Colbie wasn't the only one who didn't want Lila to go away.
I made an effort and kissed Lil's forehead, "Go dance, I'll wait for you a little longer." I said eventually. She was going to pay for that later, she owed me one.
A shriek left her lips as she threw herself towards the dancefloor, grabbing Colbie's and Liz's hands in the process.
"She'd probably jump down a cliff for you if you asked her to, you know." Adam pointed out slowly, surprising me a little because he didn't usually say things like that.
"So what?" I replied nonchalantly and poured myself a drink as my eyes moved to where Lila was, looking happy and young. I really loved her, maybe even more than I admitted. "I'd do it for her too."
Both my brothers looked at me as if I had told them I was growing another head, until Adam broke into a smirk. "I thought it'd never come the day when I'd hear those words from you."
"Shut up." I muttered before downing my drink, "Torture your other brother, not me."
"I have no problem admitting my feelings." Jax shrugged nonchalantly, his smirk matching Adam's and only making me groan.
Adam laughed, "Oh you mean how you're already in love with Colbie?" He teased him.
"I'm dangerously close I think." Jax answered simply. Oh good god, this was going to be worse than I thought.
I moved my eyes to the floor again, spotting a group of boys who looked barely legal to stay in a club, they were circling Lila, Colbie and Liz and I saw one starting moving his mouth. "It looks like someone likes Colbie as much as I do." I pointed out.
My brothers looked in my same direction, "We should go and have some fun scaring them away." Adam suggested.
I grinned wider as I kept my eyes on Lila, who I could tell she was being feisty even though I couldn't hear what she was saying. "Lila thinks she's like a ninja and can handle guys by herself." I said instead, amusement in my tone.
"But she's so tiny." Jax pointed out.
"She's so stubborn too." I finished my drink before walking to the dance floor, feeling my brothers behind me.
“Oh come on baby, he’s not here, what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him.” The guy said to Lila.
She rolled her eyes. “Oh good god, does that really work?”
“No. And you’re wrong. He is here.” My voice alone scared all three of the guys who were currently pawing at Liz and Colbie. Ridiculous.

Jax

“You guys are quick.” Colbie laughed as I glared at the red haired kid who’d been staring down my girl's dress.
“Leave.” Adam said seriously.
“We were just having a little fun.” The most stupid one said, holding his hands up in defense.
“Yeah next time have fun with someone in your league.” Lil winked at the kid and then turned to Travis. He was right about her. “I could have kicked all their asses.”
“Maybe. But not in that dress.” He gave her a look that made her blush a deep red.
“You’re hot when you’re all possessive.” Liz said, running her hands up Adam’s chest.
“What do you say we get out of here? Get some dessert.” I winked at Colbie.
“Sure, there’s a hotel with a great restaurant across the street…..maybe we could get a room.” Adam intejected.
Liz grinned up at her husband. “You’re a smart man.” She laughed.
“I’m drunk.” Colbie admitted before turning to me. “And I still have no present from you….wait is your present orgasms?” She said without thinking, making Lila and Liz crack up.
“Stop that you’re my sister!!!”
“You’re all drunk.” Travis said, shaking his head.
"I'm not that drunk." Lila, of course, retorted, poking my brothers chest with her bony finger and looking at him with an hilariously serious expression on her cute face.

Travis

"Yes you are and I'm taking you home." I smirked at her and wrapped my arm around her a.ss, making sure nothing was showing as I lifted her off the floor and tossed her body over my shoulder.
"TRAV!!" She protested but a second later she was giggling like a crazy baby just like everyone was laughing.
I turned around so that she could look at the rest of the group, "Say bye." I smirked to myself, part of me glad that I could finally take her home and have her all for myself. But the night itself hasn't been that bad actually.
"Bye guys, it was fun!!! We have to do it again!" She started and I could feel her moving in my hold, "It's Travis' birthday soon-"
I spanked her, "Don't even think about it." I grinned as I spun on my heels again, "Night!" I said to my brothers and their ladies before making my way out the club.

Jax

My eyes followed Travis and Lila, watching them as he carried her like she was his personal doll and she kept laughing. "Trav was serious about that." I glanced at Adam who just nodded.
"They're cute together." Colbie pointed out, leaning into me.
"Don't say that to Trav or he'll flip." Liz rolled her eyes, thought she was still smirking as she looked up at Adam, "I think we don't need to go in a hotel room, we have the house all for ourselves." She added seriously.
"I know thar already." My brother pointed out and shot her an amused look.
"You should make more babies, Poppy is so adorable!" Colbie said enthusiastically. Maybe a little too much, but she was the adorable one instead.
I grinned at my girl as we headed outside. "We'll be working hard on that tonight." Liz replied seriously before breaking into a chuckle.
Adam gave me a look, "It's time to go home." He said mischievously, enveloping his wife into his arms.
"I agree." I grinned and we all said bye before parting ways. Once I got Colbie into my car and started driving, I started to feel nervous too. I was this close to give her my present...and what if she was too drunk? What if this was a bad idea?
"I had so much fun Jax." She cut into my thoughts, her voice soft. "Thank you."
I turned my head to her as I stopped at the red lights, leaning into her to kiss her softly, "You have no reason to thank me baby." I smiled against her mouth.
“You’re the best boyfriend I’ve ever had instead.” Colbie admitted, a little slurred from all the champagne.
I laughed and shook my head. “I’m afraid I’m not competing with very many men but thank you.”
“Are we going to your place?”
I nodded, guessing she wouldn't argue about that but I wanted to be sure anyway. “Will and Rob are staying with Parker right?” She nodded. “And Poppy is with my mother, probably being spoiled rotten.”
She sighed. “Yeah well she’d be hard not to spoil.”
“That’s true.” I agreed, pulling up into my driveway and turning to her. “Do you want your present now?”
She nodded frantically, jumping up in her seat. “Yes please.” I chuckled and pulled out a small box from the glove compartment. She smiled as she pulled off the ribbons and opened it. “You got me a picture of a beach house?” She asked, looking down.
I laughed in response,  “No baby, It’s a weekend away. I rented the house.”
She widened her eyes. “Really?”
I nodded, holding my breath a moment until I wouldn't be sure about her reaction. “Is it okay?”
“Of course…I love the beach. What about Will?”
“He would come with us. The house has 3 bedrooms.” I winked at her, faking a confidence I didn't have, not on that matter.
She grinned wider. “Are you serious!?”
I nodded again, explaing myself. “Any time away with you is amazing Colbie and I think it would be a good way to get to know Will.”
She undid her seatbelt and climbed into my lap, tangling her hands in my hair and kissing me hard and fast. “Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you.” She said against my lips over and over as I chuckled against hers and slid my hands to her ass, finally relaxing.
“Happy Birthday.”
“I was hoping for one more present.” She said, smirking as she ground herself down into my lap.
“Oh really?”
She nodded. “You didn’t know that sexual favors were on my birthday list?” She asked, tilting her head to the side and batting her lashes with false innocence.
“Hopefully from me only.” I narrowed my eyes and she laughed.
“Yup….I’m still waiting.” She smirked and I pulled her closer.
“Let’s go inside and I’ll give you everything you ever wanted.” I said lowly as I kissed up her neck.
“Perfect…..”
